Tyttenhanger Tree Sparrows

When Barhale Properties purchased Tyttenhanger Park in October 2018 we weren’t aware that the surrounding estate (beyond the house and our grounds) supported one of the last remaining Tree Sparrow colonies in the South East of England!

Following discussions with our neighbours and their ecologists, we agreed to the construction of a Tree Sparrow “hub” within our grounds to encourage the existing Tree Sparrow population to grow in numbers through a program of feeding and nest box provision. The Herts Bird Club will attend the hub regularly to top up the feeder and download the data logger.  Assuming Tree Sparrows colonise the site they will also undertake visits to ring young birds to help with their continued safeguarding.

We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of our Tyttenhanger Tree Sparrows – it’s just one simple example of the opportunities we have to create tangible benefits through collaboration with local organisations.
